1/26/2025 - Jesus Talks With a Samaritan Woman—Acceptance & Love
Summary: Jesus met a Samaritan woman at a well. He showed that He loves everyone, no matter how different they are. Even though He knew about her mistakes, He still cared about her, which means He understands and loves us fully. Jesus taught that the most important part of worshiping God is to do it with our hearts, not just in one place. This story makes us think about how the woman felt while talking to Jesus and how we can share Jesus' love with others, no matter how different they might be.

Question (all kids): How did the Samaritan woman know right away that Jesus was a Jew and not a Samaritan?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: That's good question! Jesus knew right away that the Samaritan woman was a Jew because he is God in the flesh. He knows everything about us even before we know it. Also, it is possible that Jesus could have also known that the woman was a Samaritan for cultural reason such as the way she dressed or the type of clothing she wore indicating that she was a Samaritan.
Question (Emerson): Why did the Samaritan woman hide her sin?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: Great question! When we do bad things, we all tend to hide it. We don't want others to see what bad things we have done. That's way the Samaritan woman came to the well in the middle of the afternoon when it was the hottest. No one was there at the well during that time, which is why she came. She didn't want others to look down at her because of her sins!
We should all be able to understand how the Samaritan woman felt. When we do something bad, we try to hide it from our parents and from other so that they don't get mad at us. So we try to hide our sins. But God knows our sins. We can't hide our sins from God. That's why God sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins, so that we can be forgiven by God.
When you sin, you don't have to hide it from God, he knows what you have done, you can bring your sins and be truthful with God, and confess your sins to God, and put your faith in Jesus Christ, and God will forgive you of ALL YOUR SINS! It's that amazing! Isn't God amazing! That's why I LOVE JESUS and why you should LOVE Jesus too!
Question (Jeremy): If Jesus is/has the living water, why did he ask the Samaritan woman for water?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: Jesus asked the Samaritan woman for water, maybe because he was thirsty. And maybe he asked for water because he wanted to give the Samaritan woman the living water, which she desperately needed but didn't know about.
We know that Jesus, because he is God, came to this well at this time, just to meet with this woman. To teach her the truth that while we can satisfy our thirst with drinking water, yet there is a thirst that is in the heart of everyone, that only Jesus can satisfying. Jesus calls this, "living water". He tells her that he is the living water and that anyone who believes in him and comes to him, he will come into them, and become in them, a source of living water that will satisfy our soul forever.
When we come to Jesus, we can experience a joy and a peace that is greater than anything in the world! The deepest longings of our heart can be satisfied only in Jesus Christ -- our Creator and Redeemer!
Question (Jordan): Where was Jesus headed? Why did he stop at the well? Why did he just show up out of nowhere in this story?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: Great question Jordan! Jesus was in Judea near Jerusalem, and he was heading to Galilee (see John 4:3-4) which is north. The short direction to Galilee from Jerusalem was through the region of Samaria. Most Jews avoid this shortcut, so they would take the longer journey around Samaria. But NOT Jesus. Why did Jesus stop at the well? To take a break and to have lunch because it was a long journey and they were tired. But this encounter with the Samaritan woman was no accident. It was part of the plan of Jesus, to meet with this Samaritan woman and to reveal himself as the Messiah -- the living water that leads to eternal life and joy. It was all planned by God before it happened.
Question (Ava): If Jesus loves everyone, does he even love Satan, the fallen angel?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: What a great question! Does Jesus love the world? Yes! John 3:16 says that "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life." It was love that caused Jesus to die on the cross. He took our place of punishment and we are set free because of his death on the cross.
But not everyone benefits from Christ's death. Why? Because they refuse to repent and turn from their sins and put their faith in Jesus Christ!
Does God love Satan and the fallen angels? The Bible does not address this question, but we can infer from what we know about God that he loves the angels that fell from heaven. God was sad when they rebelled against him. They tried to usurp God's from his throne in heaven! This is a great great great sin and crime!... worthy of eternal punishment. All we know is that when they sinned against God... God did not send the angels a Savior like he did with human beings (he did not send Jesus to die for their sins, instead God gave Satan and the fallen angels, justice). God does not owe anyone "love"; if he did, it would not be love. In order for love to be love, it has to be freely given, not forced. God chose to withhold his love. He gave them justice, he gave them what they deserved.
We should be truly thankful that God did not give human beings what they deserved (ie. justice), but mercy and grace and redeeming love. We should be truly grateful that God send Jesus Christ to be our Savior from sin and death. Praise God for his wonderful grace and love!
Question (Alexi) If there are multiple universes, could there be more than one Jesus-type figure who had to die for everyone's sins?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: What an interesting question Alexi!! We don't know if there are multiple universes. But we do know that there is one universe, namely our universe, and Jesus did come into this universe of ours and died on the cross for our sins. That's amazing. Why should he care for us in this huge, gigantic universe? That's what's amazing, that he cares for us, when we are nothing -- a speck of a speck in this vast universe!
I guess it is possible that after we are done on this earth and those who believe in Jesus goes to heaven, that God might have many interesting work for us to do... maybe he'll create other universes and they'll mess up, and just maybe, he might send Jesus to that universe to die on the cross for their sins. But that's all up to God's sovereign choice. He decides but whatever he chooses to do, we will all play a big part in God's eternal plan. I am really look forward to heaven. I am really looking forward to what it means when God says, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him." (1 Cor 2:9) Heaven and our eternal life is going to blow our minds and our imaginations. It will make our life on earth like nothing, like living in a slum, compared to heaven!! Come Lord Jesus!
